girls on a roof

Here is another picture I took on my recent trip to the West Bank. These girls are part of a family I visited with a guide who explained more about the conflict in the Palestinian city of Hebron. Several hundred settlers, protected by about as many Israeli soldiers, live in the centre of this Palestinian town of 170.000. This results in an unliveable situation and frequent outbreaks of violence (read more). The father told us that a brother and a sister of these girls died as a result of violent clashes between settlers and Palestinian inhabitants during the first intifada. A number of surrounding roofs is occupied by observation posts of the Israeli army. One of these posts is in fact captured (out of focus) in the background, just right of the centre of the picture.

I like this shot! Background and the two kids are perfectly matching with eachother. You story about this makes it even more emotional. Nice work!

It’s a great photo, but a even better story. Thank you for the detailed caption, it really helps explain the context. Nice work, keep it up!
